Situated on a bold cliff, the beautiful village looks out over Ballycotton Bay, a wide
inlet of the Atlantic. Out in front is a steep island and next to the village is the
little harbour, haven of numerous fishing vessels.
Ballycotton is the nicest unspoilt fishing village in the South of Ireland in the Co. Cork.
The water is free from pollution and the village continues to win awards in the Tidy Town
Competition. There is a very relaxed atmosphere and visitors are always made to feel welcome.
Ballycotton has also a variety of cosy pubs some of them well known for their SingSong-Evenings.
The village and hinterland has a population of ca. 450 adults, who are served by seven
pubs, six shops, two hotels, one coffee-shop and one Art & Craft shop. There is a catholic
and a protestant church in the village which also has a resident doctor.

The excellence of the Sea-Angling at Ballycotton contributes largely to the popularity of
the resort in summer and autumn. Organized Sea-Angling has been well known here since 1900
and Angling-Log- Books going back to 1909 attest to the magnificent catches which have
been available and still are! Many fish recorded in Irish waters have been caught in
Ballycotton and this is still happening today!

WHAT YOU CAN CATCH
The main fish for the summer season from May to September is Pollock, Ling, Conger, Cod,
Blue Shark, Spotted Dog. From the end of October to the end of
February, is ideal for big Cod (20 Ibs+), Hake and Coalfish. For conservation, most fish
are returned alive to the water and certain species are tagged for scientific purposes.
The harbour is non-tidal and boats can go to sea at any time. Favourite angling-marks can
be reached within 20-40 minutes.
The mix of rocky ledges, sand and coral of our fishing grounds accounts for the variety of
fish available.
